A light jog →
The stress fracture is officially healed, and I am up to jogging like 15 minutes at a time now. Still quite boring, but it sure beats not running at all, and it’s better than the 400 meters of…

Medical School Life Lessons - NYTimes.com →
Two great quotes. First, from the Doctor/author: Of all the pearls that our patient offered us that day, this was the one I would carry with me throughout my career as a pediatrician, and the lesson never lost its relevance. Doctors, like anyone else, can get so comfortable with a routine that they neglect to question the questions, and we can all be misled as a result. And, from the...

Human sex from the inside out - New Scientist →
Wait, so they can get perfectly readable MRIs of people screwing, but when they want to get images of my knee or foot, I have to sit completely motionless for 45 minutes?  Why can’t I use that machine? Well, maybe not that exact machine… [Fair warning: the end of the video on the linked page shows an MRI of sex.]

Suspicious powder identified : The Issaquah Press →
It’s amazing how “white powder in mail” triggers “it must be something dangerous” which leads to “take me to the hospital with a headache.” It was cornstarch.

UW Invite Accepted Entries →
Once I’m off at med school, I’m really going to miss having a world class indoor track facility 20 minutes from my house.  Some of the best collegiate athletes, plus some pretty dang good pros, too, racing at my school’s track, multiple times in a season.  Not a bad place to have close by.

The thing about Apple is they attend to the details that the vast majority of people don’t even consciously notice, but make the experience simply better.  Impressive. (Link found at Daring Fireball)

Citi CEO Pandit's salary soars to $1.75 million... →
Regardless what you think about bank CEO compensation, it sure would be nice if my previous salary got multiplied by 1,750,000.  Then I would have ZERO problems paying for medical school…oh, to be a CEO.

I’m all for runners standing up for themselves, but 8 shots, 4 of which hit the guy, and some in the “back and buttocks”?  Might have been a bit much.

Alcohol and Exercise - NYTimes.com →
It seems as though, in rats and people, exercise and alcohol intake are positively correlated.  Bottoms up! Also, later in the article, it says that exercise protects neurons from the negative effects of “indulging.” So that post-run beer is A-OK!

Year of the Tablet Takes Another Stab at It -... →
The 2nd line of the article pretty much sums it up: Last year was supposed to be the year manufacturers would wow consumers with offerings of all sorts of tablet computers. But then: Instead, in April, Apple’s iPad came out. And the year became the Year of the iPad Hey every other tech company, if you are in a sector that Apple is in, or might be in in the near future, just give up.  You...
